HDHC Group
Leader’s Meeting << BACK TO SMALL GROUPS PAGE
02/04/07
Mrs. Feddema began the meeting by
sharing her comments about the Youth Service earlier that day. She felt so much
hope through the testimony of Laurel Nakai. As well as the spirit of the STF who supported HJN’s 12 city tour.
“One family under God” is
much more the essence of this time. HJN will take over soon. He can communicate
directly to the members. It is very powerful.
Rev. Geller gave the HDHC manual to HJN. HJN commented that HDFC can work
if it is taught properly.
We were educated by Rev. Kim. We were taught properly and
we are going in the right direction. This is the grassroots level of activity
to increase the number of members. We
realized we are on the right track with HJN.
Mrs. Feddema asked Mrs. Ellen Moon to read the HDH for this week’s meeting. The topic
was “The 3 great revolutions of True Love.”
Mrs. Feddema continued to share her
inspirations following the HDH. “We need to have spiritual discipline – 4
points – the seed f True Parents with that high standard. We can not ask guests
to follow True Parents standard if we don’t follow it ourselves.
Early Christians followed
Jesus standard and multiplied the seed. Early Christians and early UC members
always shared food. (Put Jung Sung in the food.)
There is a story about an
old grandma in the Korean church, who prepared Bone soup for True Father. She
lived a distance from the church and had to carry the heavy pot of soup with
her. On the way she urgently needed to go to the bathroom. She didn’t want
someone to take the soup so she took it in the public restroom with her. When
she arrived at the place where True Father was the soup was served to the
leaders. However, even though everyone said the soup was good. True Father
wouldn’t eat any. He is spiritually so sensitive.
The host should be proud to
put Jung Sung in the preparation of the meal.
Put your money into your
effort. Invest your own money into distant members. Don’t talk about
providential activities without showing your genuine care for them. You need a
personal heartistic relationship with them. Heal them
first through all things.
In Mrs. Feddema’s group helped one sister
who wanted to attend the Amnesty ceremony but her husband wouldn’t support her.
He is distant from the church activity. Each member donated money to allow her
to attend the event. When they gave her the money she cried. She comes to every
small group meeting.
We should share honestly
and be open to each other. That way we can understand each others heart deeply and
pray for each other. Ask if anyone wants prayer before closing your meeting.
Sometimes they hesitate because the difficulty is too personal.
Mrs. Feddema presented a power point
summary of Rev. Dong Woo Kim’s
presentation, given at the Vision Seminar on 1/21/07.
Afterwards, the leaders
divided into 3 groups to discuss how to apply the material to their small
groups. The first question was regarding the 3rd slide in the
presentation – Creating an ideal format for multiplication of small groups. The
second question was how to apply the 3 stages of multiplication. The third
question was referring to how to apply the 4 basic elements of HDFC to the
small groups.
Mr. Terry Mc Mahon was the first to report on his group. They discussed
mainly about gateway programs as they don’t have anyone who is being taught DP,
yet.
Some of the suggestions
were to combine 2 or 3 groups to make a larger group for social activities -
fellowship and entertainment, before the person becomes a VIP.
They also shared that it is
important to plan how to proceed from one meeting to the next. Plan 3-4 weeks
in advance, based on the people we want to invite.
They discussed how to
demonstrate who we are (identity) through family values, service projects,
serving neighbors and testimonies.
Also they suggested having
a financial fund “LOVE bank” for small group needs.
Then Mrs. Ellen Moon Lee reported for her group. They felt that everyone
should come up to the same level in the group and also create strong bonds
among each other through prayer.
For gateway program they
suggested a cooking class, service projects or discussions about family values.
After the activity, someone would give a presentation. Repeat the gateway
activities with discussions until the VIPs go up to the level (when they can
attend the regular meetings.)
VIPs should be inspired by
our shining example, lifestyle. Testimonies are powerful tools to open people’s
hearts.
Mrs. Christine Libon reported for the 3rd
group of leaders. In her small group they are building relationships. Her
husband is attending regularly now. She introduced the manual to the other host
(in the group) and copied the page for the next meeting (for the host.) They
like the sharing of food. The VIPs have lots of questions when they share food.
Another small group leader
in her group reported that, through the ice breakers more serious issues are
coming out. The teenage children became bored and now have their own meetings.
The leaders in her group
felt that it is important to build up a relationship with the individual guest
before bringing them to the group meeting, family to family and also teach them
DP before they join the meetings so they can understand its value. The guests
are always checking the unity between the husband and wife.
Mrs. Feddema commented that we should
use the manual. It works. It is good. You don’t want to read 4-5 pages of HDH.
You can get lost. Use the short passages provided in the manual and then focus
on the discussion. You don’t need to do all the questions. You can just choose
one and go deeper. Plan your meetings two or three weeks ahead.
In her group they are
preparing for one guest who is attending the nurturing class. They are planning
to have Japanese Culture night. They will cook and eat together.
Then Rev. Geller was invited to speak. Although there are many reason for activities in the small groups, the main goal of
HDFC is to multiply. We need to create
more core members who can support the activities of the church and join the
public sphere (WFWP, ACLC, UPF…) Without core members we will not be able to
address (or develop and expand the public sphere).
However, Rev. Geller does recognize that some
members will not want to go to that way (become a core member). They may want
to just remain a member of the HDFC small group.
Discuss with the members in
your group –gateway activities and down reach events. It is important to
refresh our minds about that issue.
